Why we use CCTV
We use CCTV to keep our customers, staff and premises safe, to prevent and detect crime, to help deal with accidents, incidents and claims, and to support the police where needed. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in these purposes. We do not use CCTV to monitor staff performance, and cameras are never placed in toilets or changing areas.
Where cameras are and how you will know
Cameras cover the entrances and outside of each restaurant, the dining areas, the bar and till areas, and the kitchen and back of house areas. They are placed only where there is a clear safety or security need. Clear signs are being put up at each restaurant to tell people that CCTV is in use, which company is responsible for it and how to contact us.
What is recorded
Our cameras record video only. They do not record sound.
Where recordings are kept and who can see them
Recordings are stored on a recorder kept securely at each restaurant. They can be viewed only by restaurant managers and the company directors, either on site or through a secure, password protected app. Live or recorded images are not shown to anyone else, and staff must not copy, photograph or share footage.
How long recordings are kept
Recordings are overwritten automatically after about 30 days. If footage is needed for an incident, a claim, a request from the police or a request from the person shown, we save a copy of just that footage and keep it securely for as long as it is needed, then delete it.
Sharing footage
We only share footage where the law allows it, for example with the police to help prevent or detect a crime, or with our insurers or legal advisers about a claim. Every time footage is shared, a manager or director records the date, what was shared, who it was given to and why.
Asking for a copy of footage of you
You have the right to ask for a copy of recordings that show you. Please contact our privacy contact at (details to follow) as soon as possible, and within 30 days of your visit, giving the date, the approximate time, the restaurant and a description of yourself so we can find the footage. We may need to blur or remove other people from the copy to protect their privacy. We will reply within one month. Our data procedures explain how requests are handled.
Looking after the system
The recorders are kept in a secure place, protected by passwords that only managers and directors know, and the passwords are changed when someone with access leaves. The CCTV equipment is not connected to the customer Wi-Fi.
Review
We review our use of CCTV once a year, and whenever we add or move cameras, to make sure it is still needed and in proportion.
